SMART SUMMERTIME GARAGE OVERHAULS TO RECLAIM YOUR GARAGE

Garages are often so full that there is no space for our cars. Often they become the home for sports equipment, tools, holiday decor and lawn equipment. With the right organizing systems, you will be able to park your car where it’s supposed to be!

Trust the organizational expertise of POSH Organizing to help transform your garage into a functional area of the home.

BUILD A VERTICAL WORKSHOP SPACE

If you have a ton of tools to sort, build them into your own compact vertical workshop with these tricks:

  • Place Your Tools on a Pegboard
  • Hang a pegboard and use a variety of hooks to mount all your most-used tools onto the wall within easy reach. You can create space and make it easier to get to your favorite tools.
  • Sort Small Items Into a Parts Cabinet
  • Small items like screws, nails, nuts, bolts, and so on can be easily sorted into a “parts cabinet”, a special chest of small drawers designed for workshops. Stack them high and secure your parts cabinetry to the walls to clear out space while providing easy access to well-organized project supplies.
  • Make Room for a Tidy Workbench
  • All this sorting may provide room for a compact work bench placed against the wall where you can make use of your tools and parts, with the whole garage for extra space.

ACCESSIBLY ORGANIZED SPORTS EQUIPMENT

Does your family have a big collection of sports equipment? Increase your likelihood of playing with it while getting it out of the central clutter with accessible organization.

  • Hanging Rack System
  • Install a hanging rack system. This is a fantastic way to hang almost everything. Practically every piece of lawn and sports equipment can be hung with the right type of hook or basket. Get everything off the floor and hanging on the walls. Your garage will now be a place you don’t mind opening the doors for all to see!
  • Rack Up Your Sport Balls Hang a rack for all your sports balls. Soccer balls, basket balls, and more can stack up in double-hooks on the walls with baseballs and tennis balls in tidy rows. They’ll be easily grabbable, and just as easy to put away.
  • Hang the Jump Ropes and Hula Hoops
  • Use different wall hooks to hang light sports equipment like jump ropes hula hoops, and similar sports supplies.
  • Mount Wall Hooks for Bikes
  • Tidy the family bicycles by providing hooks that get those bikes off the floor, but also easy to grab and ride.

SAFELY STOW YOUR SEASONAL SUPPLIES AND KEEPSAKES

Seasonal supplies and keepsakes often form the bulk of your garage boxes. Some wire shelves and proper totes can provide better protection and clear your garage to create a functional central space.

  • Totes for Seasonal Supplies
  • Instead of cardboard boxes, store your seasonal supplies (ex: tree decorations and holida lights) in clear plastic plastic totes. This will protect them from the weather and make them stackable without the risk of a cardboard collapse or unwanted pests. Buying clear totes allows you to see what is inside instead of having to open each one up to discover what is in it.
  • Weatherproof Totes for Wrapped Keepsakes
  • Stow your keepsakes carefully wrapped in weatherproof totes. These lock on all 4 sides and keep your items super safe.
  • Wire Shelves for Storage Boxes
  • Use tall wire shelves wide enough to hold full-sized totes. These get your items off the garage floor and help organize them neatly. Our favorite wire racks are HDX shelving becasue they are so easy to build.
  • Hint: Before you put them together have all the items contained in whatever size totes needed and then built your racks around these sizes. You will get the most out of your shelving system this way.
